Everything to Me

She's a wave in the moonlight
She's a red stick of dynamite
A warm fire on a cold night
She's around, and I'm alright
Where she is is where I wanna be
I ain't nothing without my baby
She's everything to me

She's a day in the sunshine
A deep vein in a gold mine
Ooh, she's so fine (so fine)
That's fine, she's all mine (all, yeah, yeah, ooh)
Where she is is where I wanna be
I ain't nothing without my baby
She's everything to me

Where she is (ooh) is where I wanna be
I ain't nothing without my baby (my baby, my baby, my baby)
No, I'm nothing without my baby (nothing without, no)
There's just something about my baby
That girl's everything (mmm)
Yeah, she's every little thing to me

I'm talking 'bout my baby (said that's where I wanna be)
Talking 'bout my girl (I ain't nothing without him, talking, oh)
Yeah, yeah (yeah, yeah) yeah, yeah (yeah, yeah)

Finally Fine

It's been a long, hard road for you and me
And there were time it seems like we weren't meant to be
Love went wrong like a sad, sad song
Oh, but we kept holding on
Guess every nighttime finds a dawn eventually

We're finally fine
We're finally fine
Now all those tears don't matter
'Cause it was just a matter of time
Until that dream came true
When all those stars aligned
I'm finally yours
You're finally mine
We're finally fine

They say the good things come to those who wait
And the road to what you want is always straight
The twists and turns will break your heart
And tear a lesser love apart
But they can't touch ours
'Cause they can't play fair

All the good we'll finally get to feel
All the make believe is finally real

We're finally fine
We're finally fine
Now all those tears don't matter
'Cause it was just a matter of time
Until the dream came true
When all those stars aligned
I'm finally yours
You're finally mine
We're finally fine
We're finally fine

Our love was torn, and tattered
It was just a matter of time
Until the dream came true
When all those stars aligned
I'm finally yours
You're finally mine
We're finally fine

We're finally fine

Good at Goodbye

I told her up front
"You gotta know who I am
'Cause life can get hard, a heart can get scarred
When you're loving a music man"
Still she cried every time I went away
She didn't cry that much, hey

She's getting good at goodbye
She's getting good at goodbye

You used to break my heart
Watching her watch me go
I'd barely be back, she'd be helping me pack
Another month on the road
She'd stand there, waving in the door
Now she don't stand there anymore

She's getting good at goodbye
She's getting good at goodbye

I've been gone so long, singing my songs
It's no wonder why, why
She don't cry
She's getting good at goodbye

I would stop all this leaving if I could
One day she'll say goodbye for good

She's getting good at goodbye
She's getting good at goodbye
She's getting good at goodbye
She's getting good at goodbye
She's getting good at goodbye
Good at goodbye

I've been gone so long, singing my songs
It's no wonder why, why
She don't cry
Her eyes are dry
She's getting good at goodbye

Halfway Home

Like a fool, I wander
From the home I love
And the arms, the one who loved me, too
Chasing the devil
Down to Deadend Street
Left me lonesome, broken, and blue

I might stumble, and fall
I might have to crawl
Down this troubled road I am on
I might be slowed down
I won't turn around
'Cause I know I'm already halfway home

I got lucky
When all my luck ran out
Rock bottom stopped me right in my tracks
'Cause I found grace
In that hopeless place
Now I'm homesick, and on my way back

I might stumble, and fall
I might have to crawl
Down this troubled road I'm on
I might be slowed down
I won't turn around
'Cause I know I'm already halfway home

Mm, I can see
Up ahead of me
So many mountains, but I must go on
So I set my eyes
On the life that shines
And leads me back where I belong

I might stumble, and fall
I might have to crawl
Down this troubled road I'm on
I might be slowed down
I won't turn around
'Cause I know I'm already halfway home
Yes, I know, so here I go, I'm halfway home

Happy Nashville New Year

Happy Nashville new year
Such a sight to see
How the bands that play on old Broadway
When you're honky-tonky here with me

L

et's make a resolution
What next year will be
Same place, same time, singing old
On a Nashville new year's eve

Out here in New York City
There had a party
Champagne's gonna pop, and apples gonna drop
In the middle of old Time's Square

I bet they're really, really rocking
Bless their soul
For me I like my Broadway lights
Down where the Cumberland road

Happy Nashville new year
Such a sight to see
How the bands that play on old Broadway
When you're honky-tonky here with me

Let's make a resolution
What next year will be
Same place, same time, singing old
On a Nashville new year's eve

We got there
The Bluebird kept bay
And every night we got a 100 of a spot
To listen to the music play

But we all come here, now
When the year's all gone
And this whole town starts counting down
3, 2, 1

Happy Nashville new year
Such a sight to see
How the bands that play on old Broadway
When you're honky-tonky here with me

Let's make a resolution
What next year will be
Same place, same time, singing old
On a Nashville new year's eve
Same place, same time, singing old
On a Nashville new year's eve
Same place, same time, singing old
On a Nashville new year's eve

He Ain’t Me

I heard tell you gotta
brand new boy
They say you done well
He's the real McCoy
He's a hoot,
and cute to boot
They all agree
Well he might might be all that
But honey, he ain't me

Bet that guy's gotta line or two
He cares and swears he's
there for you
He thinks he's Mr. Right
And he might be
But he ain't right for you
'Cause honey, he ain't me

He ain't the one who can love you best
He ain't got this heart beating in his chest
He may be sweet. He might be true
And there's a girl for him
But girl it ain't you
I feel bad 'cause when you break up
You're gonna crush that boy like a Dixie cup
When you come running back eventually
'Cause when all is said and done
He ain't me

Yeah, when all is said and done
He won't be the one
That poor sad sonofagun
He ain't me

Heart Can’t Say Goodbye

Goodbye
It's an easy word to say
People use it everyday
Just to line their throwaway
And I
Said it like I should
Tried to let you go for good
But if I only could

I could go out drinking every night with all my friends
Ride out in the desert, find out where the highway is
And all I do is think of you and cry
And wonder why my heart can't say goodbye

Time
Is supposed to be a friend
Help a heart to mend
But this pain don't seem to end
You
Turn and walk away
Only word that I could say
Is still haunting me today

I could find some medicine to make me feel alright
Someone to lie beside me, help me make it through the night
And all I do is think of you and cry
And wonder why my heart can't say goodbye

I know that you moved on
That I loved you too long
And I know what I should do

I should go out drinking every night with all my friends
Ride out in the desert, find out where the highway is
I should find some medicine to make me feel alright
Someone to lie beside me, help me make it through the night
And all I do is think of you
All I do is think of you
Goodbye
Goodbye
Goodbye
Goodbye
Goodbye

It's an easy word to say

Hell to Pay

You heard the whisper
In your ear
"I got all you ever wanted, got it right here
You been working too hard
I can feel your pain
It's been a long dry spill, I can make it rain"

And that voice drowned out your conscious
So you made a real, clean brain
From many reservations, now you do whatever it takes
I stick to the straight, and narrow
And there's an easy way
When you find out when there's hell to pay

Dirty money
Spends just fine
You can wash the bad taste out your mouth with the fine red wine
Collateral damage
Well, it can't be held
You can't save the world, so you save yourself

And that voice drowned out your conscious
So you made a real, clean brain
From many reservations, now you do whatever it takes
There's a stranger in your mirror
That you just turned away
'Cause the stranger knows there'll be hell to pay

You gain the world
It only cost your soul
Now the deals are done, so let the good times roll
'Til the clouds roll in
And the sky turns grey
And the voice returns to say "there's hell to pay"
Heaven help you out when there's hell to pay

Hillbilly Billy

All around the mountain there's a legend that has grown
'Bout a boy they all call Billy, he lives up there alone
Works down in the mine where every day is black as night
By the time that Friday rolls around, he's ready for them lights

He rakes a comb back through his hair, hitches up his pants
He'll be taking on the town now, man, that town don't stand a chance

Hillbilly Billy better run for the hills
Come down here to get his fill
Whiskey, women, wine and thrills
Husbands here are fit to kill
And if they catch that boy, they will
Hillbilly Billy better run for the hills

He reaches for his wallet, throws a card down on the bar
Then he takes a drink, and mixes it with something from a jar
By 10, he's on the dance floor, tearing up some wood
Buying drinks for everybody with that card that ain't no good

By 2, he's in the alleyway with some old brother's wife
2:15 you'll hear a shotgun, see him running for his life

Hillbilly Billy better run for the hills
Come down here to get his fill
Of whiskey, women, wine and thrills
Husbands here are fit to kill
And if they catch that boy, they will
Hillbilly Billy better run for the hills

They followed him down Main Street, saw him tear across the bridge
Caught him sit behind the junkyard out by Hunter's Ridge
They swear they almost caught him right before the dome
He was gone, gone, gone, gone

Hillbilly Billy better run for the hills
Come down here, and his fill
He'll be back, oh, yes, he will
Then hillbilly Billy better run for the hills, yeah

Hillbilly Billy better run for the hills
Come down here to get his fill
Of whiskey, women, wine and thrills
Husbands here are fit to kill
And if they catch that boy, they will
Hillbilly Billy better run for the hills

He'll be back

Holding On

When the day is done, I will be the one
Holding on to you holding on to me
All I need. The only where I wanna be
Is holding on to you holding on to me

These arms have been too empty for too long
Pain was all I held on to
Now it's gone

When this world don't care, I will be right there
Holding on to you holding on to me
And on some dark day, I can only pray
You'll be holding on to me holding on to you

These arms have been too empty for too long
Pain was all I held on to
Now it's gone

These arms have been to empty for too long
Thought pain was made to hold on to
I was wrong

When this song is done, I will be the one
Holding on to you holding on to me
Holding on to you holding on to me

Home by Suppertime

I used to fly all day, on a dragon
I settled Santa Fe, by covered wagon
I rode a dinosaur
Been there. Done that
I fought the Third World War
Did that. Won that
I walked the moon when I wasn't fighting crime
As long as I was home by suppertime

When I turned 17, I got cool
I hated that high school scene and all those rules
I Thought it would never end
Yes sir. No sir.
Just wanted my girlfriend
Closer closer
My daddy fought to keep this boy in line
Made sure that I was home by suppertime

Where we'd gather at the table
For our blessings we'd be grateful as we'd bow
Hand in hand he would command
And I could never understand
But oh how I do now

That girl and I left home
Now we're raising a family of our own
Sure gets crazy
You gotta run so fast. Always going
Searching for greener grass that all needs mowing
But every night I can promise that you'll find
That I'm home by suppertime

Every once in a while after praying
I gotta stop and smile
I hear Dad saying, "It isn't just about Mama's cooking
Or passing plates around. If you're not looking
You're gonna find that your life has passed you by."
Right there is why I'm home by suppertime.
Home by suppertime. Gotta get home by suppertime
God bless suppertime

Hot One

Just woke up. Got a beer in my cup, ‘cause it’s already hotter than hell
The AC’s gone, but the fan’s still on in this cheap beach motel
So my boys and I climb in and drive down to milepost five
And I can feel the temperature rise

It’s gonna be a hot one
Soaking it up while the sun beats down
Bring a cooler if you got one
Ain’t nothing else to do in this one beach town
All I need is the sea in front of me. Sand under me
Yeah, it’s gonna be hot. Ready or not.

It’s high noon now on this motel towel, and I just burned my feet
There ain’t no breeze. ‘Bout a hundred degrees
Let’s go get something to eat. Wait

There’s some girls, by the shore, that we met before
There were three. Now there’s more
And they’re bringing us beer
Good Lord, looks like

It’s gonna be a hot one
Living it up while the sun beats down
Bring a cooler if you got one
Ain’t nothing else to do in this one beach town
All I need is a girl in front of me, sand under me
Yeah it’s gonna be hot

The sun’s long gone but the party goes on in the firelight
She holds my hand, while we sit in the sand
Yeah, it’s a pretty good night
And our friends are all near, drinking beer by the pier
And she says in my ear, “Why don’t we get outta here?”

It’s gonna be a hot one. It’s gonna be a hot one
Wanted a girl, and now I got one
And she’s a hot one, hot one, hot one
